One of the most recent celebrity divorces which may involve a complicated property division process is that of Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard. Zooey Deschanel is the front woman of the indie pop band She & Him as well as a Golden Globe nominated actress that stars in the TV series New Girl. Ben Gibbard is the front man of the platinum-selling alternative rock band Death Cab for Cutie. Zooey filed for divorce on Dec. 27 citing irreconcilable differences.
Last week we discussed the divorce of Katy Perry and Russell Brand. Although celebrity divorces are relatively common, there are many things that Dallas residents can learn from celebrity divorces including the challenges or property division if a couple decides not to have a prenuptial agreement. An experienced Dallas divorce attorney can help local couples through the property division process and assess the value of a couple’s marital estate.
It is unclear what exactly led to Zooey’s filing for divorce. She previously expressed displeasure at her husband’s touring schedule and said that being without her husband for such extended periods was hard.
“You can’t expect to make no effort,” the star ironically said. “You still have to make the effort and be kind and understanding. It sort of just solidifies your commitment.”
That commitment appeared to have waned but the actress insists that the split was amicable. The amicable divorce has not allowed her to escape media scrutiny however, especially after her attorney disclosed her finances in public court filings.
Although celebrities are understandably weary of exposing their finances, it is also important for many local business people to avoid having their financial data open to public scrutiny. The accidental exposure of financial information is just one of many possible consequences of failing to hire an experienced divorce attorney to handle your divorce.
